RC Pune Katraj distributed packs of reusable sanitary pads to 120 girl students at Yeolewadi ZP school. These will be useful to them for the next 3 years. A well executed activity under the avenue of Environment & Child health by Rtn. Vidya, Rtn. Kalesh and Rtn. Rupali. District director Rtn. Seema Deshpande and Green Periods chair Rtn. Neena Raisoni were present for the program. DISPOSABLE SANITARY NAPKINS which are currently used everywhere have following problems : 1. Huge challenge of disposing. 2. Contains plastic layers which are non degradable. 3. It is pollutant and has carcinogenic chemicals 4.when burnt below 1100 degrees ( incinerator burns at 300 ) it releases toxins . 5. Clogs drains 6. It is hazardous to environment. THE ALTERNATIVE— REUSABLE NAPKINS. 1. Since reusable, it lasts for 3 years . 2. Reduces carbon footprint 3. Reduced quantity in landfills . 4. The material used it cotton fibre. So it is biodegradable. 5. Environmental friendly. In rural and tribal areas many women use rags. This project helped the girls in their hygiene in a big way.
