10-12-2017 - 16-12-2017

Ambitious yet pragmatic Sakhi 2017 was one of the most exhilarating projects that Rotaract Club of Pune Katraj has done so far in its decade long presence in Rotaract world. This project involved stupendous planning in very less amount of time and involved multiple activities to be done simultaneously. Shawl donation, sanitary pad donation, awareness about sanitation and hygiene and medical checkup of nearly 350 aadivasi school girls from the age group of 6 to 18 years were the activities done under this project in one day. A group of 10 rotaractors with equal number of doctors were entailed in this activity. This project was initiated keeping in view the issues associated in getting proper sanitation and hygiene facilities to underprivileged school girls in remote villages. This activity was carried out in Aadivasi Aashram School, Vanjarwadi Village, Karjat as is about 10-15 kms away from any nearby medical facility for emergency requirements and about 110 kms (3 hrs travel) from Pune. The programme was conducted on 10th December 2017. Dr. Mrs. Kavita Gangawane who has been a working very hard for community for last 23yrs was invited as a Chief guest for this event. She delivered a wonderful speech on overall health and related issues to girls at the school. In this event we conducted a Sanitation and hygiene awareness session for girls prepared by Rtr. Dr. Gayatri Gangawane. It was an utmost important lecture for girls and was wonderfully planned and delivered by Dr. Gayatri. We conducted medical and dental checkup for all school girls present in the aadivasi school campus. We distributed around 400 sanitary pads packets (each containing 6 pads) to girls above 5th standard at the school for free. Around 200 shawls were donated to young girls in primary age group at the school. These shawls we donated to us by a well known poet Mr. Hari Narke. Parallel to this event we also donated about 100 shawls to school for deaf and dumb at Karjat Muk-Badhir School and 100 shawls in Swamidham ashram and old age home which was about 23kms from the Aadivasi School in a very remote location. and we have donated few shawls to local workers as well. Rtn. Pushkaraj Mulay, Rtn. Anant Tikone and entire rotary family supported us immensely for this event
