Rotary Club of Pune katraj is one of the leading clubs in RID 3131. & recipient of significant achievement award for project ‘SAKSHAM ‘in RY 2016-17 for their work in 24 schools of Deaf Mute Children in Pune District. In the RY 2017-18, Club chartered an interact club in C.R.Ranganath Deaf Mute School Pune, which is first one of its kind in the district .During the interact activities it was observed that these special children do posses some special abilities which stand them out from the normal children. In order to give opportunity to artist within these special children, appreciate and recognize their special ability, Rotary club, Rotaract & Interact club of Pune katraj organized a district level drawing competition for Deaf Mute children from all the school children of 24 deaf and dumb schools in Pune district covering Indapur, Shirur,Baramati, Urali Kancha and Pune city. The competition was held in four categories / age groups. The competition received overwhelming response & @ 1100 + Deaf Mute students from the Pune district participated in the same. Rotary club members & Rotaractors visited many schools for conducting the competition & were amazed by seeing the art of these children. It was really a tough task for the evaluators to decide the winners as many drawings depicted a very high quality of art & this resulted in a tie for many awards. A day came when all the award winners were invited along with their parents & school teachers to participate in award ceremony. For this special event, a commercial hall for hired in which the drawings of the students were hung all over the hall. It was a priceless moment to see the joy on the face of the students, parents, teachers when they saw their paintings exhibited in the hall and appreciated by all. It was a proud moment & memorable experience for these special children to receive the award at the hands of Mr.Sanjay Nahar (founder of Sarhad ) in a very well organized function by Rotary, Rotaract & Interact club Of Pune Katraj. Mr.Nahar congratulated the children, parents and teachers for their un- tired efforts to resolve the conflict in the life of these children aroused due to Deafness & bring these children in the main stream of education. Winners were awarded with a trophy and a merit certificate. Participation certificate was given to each participating student. The award ceremony received sponsorship from the members of Rotary Club of Pune Katraj. The function started with an amazing performance of Musical Yoga presentation by Deaf Mute children of Red Cross deaf school & ended with delicious dinner from Rotary Club Pune Katraj. The teachers & parents expressed gratitude for the initiative and congratulated Rotary, Rotaract & Interact club members for giving the opportunity to students.
